South Yorkshire Talent Netball Update

There have been many additions to the talent squad throughout the season with selection or scouting taking place at the National Schools Tournaments, the South Yorkshire Junior Clubs U16 & 14 Leagues on Mondays at the EIS and the South Yorkshire Clubs Tournaments.

There are now 60 on the programme and additional dates have been set across the summer to allow for more time to help develop these players before they go back to clubs and schools for next season. A number of the group will be retained on the programme through to next season and even now younger girls are being invited to join at that stage! In case any girl has missed the letters inviting them to the summer training sessions, they are:

Mondays 6-8pm at the EIS;

12 May, 2 June and 7 July 2008

Those South Yorkshire players with considerable potential will be invited to attend a Regional Screening Day in October 2008 with a view to being selected for the Regional Talent Development Group which will guide their training towards possible Talent Screening which is the only access to playing for England.

Exciting news! All the girls over 14 on the programme are invited to be ball girls at the Superleague Play Offs held in Sheffield on 15th and 29th March. Some are even being invited to be volunteers at the Test Match England v Malawi on Monday 14 April. If you have not received your invitation please contact your coach!

Under 16 Netball Tournament - Pontins, Prestatyn

June 23rd - 24th

Postion: Runner up

9 players from the U16 South Yorkshire Development squad went to the tournament.

On Saturday the girls stamina was tested as they played 4 x 40minute matches. A comprehensive victory over Morecombe (55:7) was followed by wins against Deeside (18:13) and Ribble Valley (30:13). The last game of the day was against Wirral. This was a hard fought game which unfortunately the girls lost 16:23.

Sunday saw a change to the playing format with us playing each team again but with matches now two halves of 7 minutes. this proved a fresh challenge to the players who adapted well and agin won their first 3 matches. the tournament decider was the last match of the day against Wirral, a tough, competitive and exciting game saw Wirral come out winners by just 2 goals.

All of the players who attended the weekend played some excellent netball and were a credit to South Yorkshire.

The players were: Olga Phillips, Sarah Saunders, Amy Wilson, Hattie Morton, Charlotte Webster, Jenny Stones, Rosanna Armstrong, Sara Akhavan-Hezaveh and Emily Cain.

Jenny Stones was voted player of the tournament after a great display in defence.

Both Katy and myself would like to thank Jane Webster and Laura Swift for the time they have spent this year planning and co-ordinating the talent developement programme/fixtures, along with all the players for their hard work this season, both in training and competitive matches. The u16 have had a good season, only losing two games, both against Lancashire who were the inter-counties tournament winners in 2005/06.

This years Talent Development Presentation Night was held at Aurora Sports Club to celebrate the 2006/07 season.

CONGRATULATIONS

Players Player - Rosanna Armstrong

Coaches Player - Rosanna Armstrong

Most Improved Player - Charlotte Webster.

The Under 16 Coach is Tracy Wilson. Team Manager is Katy Rogers

The under 16 squad are also due to play in a Netball tournament on the 22nd June 2007 at Pontins in North Wales

GOOD LUCK FOR THE TOURNAMENT FROM ALL AT SYCNA
