The camp is taking place at Bradfield College near Reading from Monday 11th August – Wednesday 13th August 2008 and will focus upon the development of leadership skills through sport, offering a good blend of practical and theory-based sessions, which will be both generic and netball specific.

Summer Tournament

For most of us the Netball season has come to a close, and we may all be worried about losing our match fitness!!!!! Fear not Panthers Netball team are organising an end of season’s tournament.

Due to myself going travelling this summer, we will not be able to run the summer league but I want to organise a tournament. The tournament will be Saturday 10th May.

It will start at 9 am and run until 4pm at Wakefield Girls High School. The courts are outside at WGHS games field. The facilities are excellent and include changing rooms, toilets and a kitchen where beverages can be made.

It is a tremendous opportunity to encourage teams and new players to your club before the new season.

The cost of the tournament will run at 25GBP per team.

Once you return the form below with your entry fee, you will receive your fixtures.

Each team must supply an umpire. I will arrange this so that you will be able to play as well as umpire. If you are struggling please let me know and I may be able to arrange one (possibly at a cost).

The winners of the league will win a match ball.

Players enter the league at there own risk and Panther are not liable for any incidents.

Rachel Cox is holding a charity event to raise money for the Macmillan Cancer Hospices in both Sheffield and Rotherham on the 10th August and is looking for umpires

Although details are still to be finalised for the event, it will take place at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield and will start at 10:00am

There will be a lunch break from 1-2pm for people to eat / drink etc.

A presentation will held at approx 3 / 4pm depending on the finishing time of the games.

Each match will be approx 30 mins, 15 minutes each way.

Rachel would need a minimum of 4 umpires to cover the two courts for the whole day but if more people volunteer then that would enable the umpires to take a breather.

If you are interested, please contact Rachel, on 0114 274 4747 or Rachel.Cox@irwinmitchell.com

Lauren Potter from Millhouses has just been selected for the England U17 Netball team, the first youngster from South Yorkshire to achieve this for fifteen years!

The Year 10 pupil from Sheffield High School was selected to attend the National Screening which was held in Bath on Sunday 16 March as one of the 94 girls nominated for screening from all 9 regions across the country for selection to the U17 and U19 England squads for next season. It is an intense day of very competitive match-play under the watchful eyes of the national talent coaches. About a third were eliminated half way through the day but the remaining athletes were then left to watch the website for the final cut! The selected girls names were displayed on the England Netball website with 16 in the U17 squad and 16 in the U19 squad, and Lauren is the only player from the Yorkshire region to be selected.

Lauren now joins the Talent 1 squad for a 4 day training camp in April and a 10 day camp in August, both in Bath, and after the summer camp there will be a final selection for the squads to train to compete in the European Champs in 2009.

This National Selection has come at the end of a very busy season for Lauren who was selected to play for Leeds Carnegie U19 in the inaugural season of the National Talent League and has even been invited to train with the Senior Superleague side. She has played in all of the Leeds U19 matches helping them to secure fourth place in the country with wins over Team Bath, Northern Thunder and Team Northumbria. At school Lauren has helped the Sheffield High School team to become Sheffield, South Yorkshire, Regional and National Trust Champs this season.

Lauren has come through the South Yorkshire Talent Development Programme and been guided through the Regional Talent Programme in her individual training. She is looking forward to helping her club Oldham to retain the National U16 clubs title for the fourth year running in the final play-offs next month. Not only has Lauren managed to do all the personal and team training but she has also had to fit in winter training with the Yorkshire regional high performance sprint squad ready for the upcoming athletics season!

February 28th

It was lights, camera and netball action at Sheffield High School as the top names in the England Netball scene came into coach the school teams and all recorded by Sky Sports!

Current captain Amanda Newton, Karen Atkinson the current vice captain and the long serving player Tracey Neville, former England international and sister of Gary and Phil Neville, came in to promote netball roadshow which will be run over the summer.

This will involve England players past and present travelling to different locations in the UK and holding training sessions for children interested in netball.

As this season, the National Superleague playoffs will be held in Sheffield, and the upcoming International Test Series will also be held at the Sheffield Arena,

netball is obviously being promoted by England Netball.

The Sheffield High School girls who have played for the school A teams (aged 11 to 18) loved the chance to meet these famous players, to ask them questions, take photos and get their autographs.

They were then coached by Amanda, Karen and Tracey in skills and team drills and with the added excitement of the TV cameras filming their every move!

As Sheffield High School Netball Captain Sarah Wilkinson presented flowers to the England players she said "It has been so exciting having you come into school to coach us. We have learned so much and you have been a huge inspiration to us all, thank you"

Have you bought your ticket to see the Queens yet?

The Queens in question are Malawi's netball team, who were the hit of the recent Netball World Championships. Not only did they give New Zealand a run for their money, but they overcame South Africa to take a very well deserved fifth place, and made a host of fans with their simple yet devastatingly effective playing style.

Their team is packed with talent, including the irrepressible GA Mary Waya, who may be relatively old for an international netballer at 38, but has skills that can confuse and befuddle both young and old, and all delivered with her trademark smile! Captain Peace Chawimba heads a unit that is fleet of foot, full of energy and ready to show off its skills to English audiences and show that their fifth ranking in the world is well deserved, not a flash in the pan.

New England coach Sue Hawkins will be taking charge of the team for the first time, and will be looking to get her international coaching career off with an impressive win. And this is the opportunity for England fans to see the squad in action for the first time since last November's World Championships, at a venue near you!

The matches are to be played at the Sheffield Arena (14 April), Coventry (16 April) and London Wembley (18 April) and tickets are already selling fast - so book your seats now!

Tickets are now available for the three matches as follows:

- 14 April Sheffield Arena and 16 April Skydome Arena Coventry:

Priced 17GBP adults (England Netball members 14GBP), children 9GBP, family ticket 48GBP

Groups - buy eight tickets, receive one free

- 18 April: Wembley Arena

Priced 19GBP adults (England Netball members 16GBP), children 10GBP, family ticket 52GBP

I'm emailing to let you know about a new project I am working on with YST and scUK. We are providing up to 15 Coaching Scholarships for young coaches and leaders who will be in year 11 or 12 from September 2008.

The package will include:

The young coach would not be awarded any funding direct but instead will be offered a scholarship package which will include the following support:

Opportunity to claim up to 250GBP per year to undertake Sports Specific Coaching Awards via their designated NGB and/or generic CPD

A level 3 trained mentor identified by their NGB or via Sports Coach UK who will work with them to identify when, where and what they need in terms of supporting interventions.

A lifestyle support mentor within their school/college (if applicable) who will help the coach to balance their coaching commitments against academic, performing and social pressures.

Opportunity to attend 2 Coach Scholar 'Development' Days per year and a Young Leaders Camp.

A young coach will be classed as a 'scholar' for two years but it is important to recognise that the support they receive will not be stopped after this time; this scholarship is very much the start of their journey to becoming an 'expert' coach in their chosen field. Following the scholarship it is expected that their mentoring support will continue and depending on their selected pathway they will be supported through other mechanism such as Regional Coaching Centres and of course via their National Governing Body.

Criteria for the scholarships are:

- Young coaches should be aged between 16 and 18 years of age and in full-time education as of Sept 2008.

- Are currently engaged in volunteering within the community and are committed to achieving 200 hours of volunteering

- Can demonstrate their commitment to coaching and articulate the aspirations they have as a coach and their desire to succeed.

- Would be willing to undertake their level 1 and/or 2 coaching qualification.

This is a great opportunity, we are one of only four sports involved with this project. I have attached the application form for you to distribute. Applications need to be into me by Friday 22nd Feb. If you could please forward this on to all of your contacts it would be greatly appreciated.

Please click here to download an application form.

Any questions, please contact Rebecca Skinner at England Netball

DVC netball club needs to raise upto 1000GBP to develop the club to the next stage (level 3 coaching course). Course fees have increased dramatically for coaches at every level since AENA have joined with the UKCC. Plus, more coaches are needed to expand beyond what we have already achieved so far within the netball club, to accomodate the growth. The funds have to be raised by June 2007, therefore can we all pull together and raise the money before then? This is one of your ideas which I am working towards today. Please offer any help you can give and keep coming up with other ideas soon.

DVC Netball Club would like to say a big thankyou to all teams who participated in the tournament and helped raise over 500GBP for their club funds

April 4th

The Sheffield High School Under 14 Netball squad took Silver Medals in the prestigious National Schools Netball Finals in Bournemouth last weekend!

It is 23 years since a school from South Yorkshire has been in the top two placings and the first time ever for Sheffield High School, who have a good track record in the National Schools with a previously highest placing of 5th.

In their run to the finals, they had taken the South Yorkshire in the first round of the competition and were crowned Yorkshire and Humberside Champions in the Regional Round. To reach the finals (along with the top 18 teams) in the England from over 2,000 schools from the country who originally enter is achievement itself but to come back with medals is outstanding.

The excitement was intense as the enormity of what they were achieving grew throughout the day. The families and supporters who had traveled to Bournemouth cheered and shouted as the team progressed through the stages of the competition. \"We were so proud to receive the trophy for second in the country - we each got a silver medal too\" said Jordan, Captain of the SHS Under14 team.

Congratulations to all the girls!

The squad celebrates
